#593 - hecatescurse - Bay Cat

When I got my animals, I knew it would end up being between the european wildcat or the bay cat. Upon further research, though, I discovered that the bay cat is secretive and nocturnal, which fits both my personality and my sleeping habits. I am more anxious and nervous, and I don't really like being around big groups of people (or even people, to be honest) for long periods of time. I spend much more time by myself in my room.

Physically, the bay cat fits me as well because while it is a wild cat, it is one of the small wild cats, fitting my small size, as I am only five feet tall and therefore shorter than most people I know. It is mostly found in Asia and I am Chinese, which is another way in which the bay cat would be a good fit for me. These cats live in dense tropical forests and climb trees and rocky limestone areas, and I have a bad habit of climbing every tree (and everything else) I can get a leg up on. As a wild cat, a bay cat definitely has that fierceness and potential aggressiveness that I mentioned in my app in which I usually try and stay out of conflicts and such unless provoked into a fight.

Overall, because the bay cat is such a secretive animal, there have been very few sightings, and therefore, not much is known about this animal. People have also said that it is very hard to get to know me because I tend to keep to myself and don't open up much to strangers. I definitely love this choice and will be very happy to be able to transform into a bay cat.

#594 - sparkle_fingers - Black Russian Terrier

I had some trouble choosing which animal I wanted for my animagus. They were all great choices, so I had to read up about all of them before picking one. I ended up picking the Black Russian Terrier. These dogs were originally bred to guard and protect, which I connected to since I try to do my best to protect my family and friends. I identified with the fact that they avoid fighting with other dogs and don't bark unless they feel it's necessary, but that they're very quick to act to defend their homes and families. I won't pick fights, but I won't hesitate to defend my loved ones. Something else that I wanted was to be able to protect myself. These dogs are HUGE. And fluffy, even though I was mostly joking about wanting a fluffy animagus form. They're also described as playful well into adulthood, so this is something else I share with this breed (though I'm not well into adulthood just yet, right? 23 is still fairly young).

BRTs are low maintenance dogs that don't mind staying indoors and love human contact, and will develop behavior problems if left alone too long. I'm kind of the same way. Not the whole behavior problems thing, but I'm kind of lazy, and I like being around people I'm close to or at least talking to them through skype or whatever, and when I've spent too much time alone I get bored and that leads to bad ideas.

The more I read about this breed, the more I love it. I'm glad that two people suggested it and I would be very happy to have it as my animagus form.

#595 - reina_ursa - Red Wolf

I had four amazing choices to choose from - four absolutely amazing choices - and while they were all wonderful and I felt all of them related to me so well, I have to choose the red wolf.

The red wolf truly resonates not just with my physical form but also with my emotional and spiritual side. While red wolves do live amongst a pack, they aren't typically large packs with massive numbers, which is perfect because I am not very fond of being around many people at once. They are nocturnal creatures by nature and I truly relate to that, as I work graveyard shift and my hours are midnight until eight in the morning. I do just about everything at night, really and do my sleeping during the day. Red wolves also tend to pair with a mate for life (though I know it's not always the case but it is typical), and I am very much about that when it comes to my husband, as we are very much in love and very happy together and would never want be with anyone else.

Red wolves are quite territorial and I feel that the same applies to me. They tend to be very family oriented, with all of the pack helping out with the pups and I feel the same applies to me. I love my family very much and I do what I can for them whenever I can. And like me, they are very fierce!

Red wolves love meat like rabbits and deer and I do love to eat meat, even though I tried desperately several times to be a vegetarian! I just couldn't do it! Strong and with fur and teeth, I feel a connection with that. I've always felt if I was an animal, I'd have thick greyish-red fur and very powerful teeth.

Wolves are earth based, as they are obviously not sea or sky creatures and I feel this is perfect for me, as I am not a fan of the deep ocean nor am I interested in flying. I can imagine a cozy wolf den by a stream and I know that would be perfect for me. Another interesting similarity with me is that there is a large number of Red Wolves in North Carolina and that is the state in which I live in!

I am a very spiritual person and in my religious beliefs, the red wolf is my totem animal and so I feel such a closeness and bond to this creature, that I must choose it for my animagus form.

#596 - burningxhope - Snow Leopard

All my life I've been a loner type, sticking to myself and not making many friends. When I was younger I was horribly picked on, which caused me to seek out places where I could be alone and be in my own world. The Snow Leopard is much like that, living their life on their own, except when they mate. Currently I spend most of my day alone, because I am a house wife, and I don't get to spend much time with my husband before he has to go to work and go to sleep early. While I'm awake he's either asleep or at work.

I've also gone through life observing those around me, studying them if you will. As I've gotten older, I try and blend into my surroundings much like a snow leopard would against the snow. They are a creature that likes to see all but not be seen by others. I can relate to that in many ways. We're also silent creatures, a mystery to most, because we're not trusting of others.

While the snow leopard wasn't my first thought--actually it wasn't even close to what I thought I'd get, I'm beginning to see myself in the beautiful animal. While there might be some differences, I can relate to the core of what makes a snow leopard who they are.

As to their physical appearance, they're on the smaller side of the big cats, which I'm usually the short one when it comes to my friends and family. I have short legs, short torso... Basically, I'm short and kind of stocky, which is the physique of these cats. They also have long, thick hair to protect them from the cold weather, which for many years my hair was very long, as well as being extremely thick.

While we're talking about these cats living in cold weather, I've always preferred the cold. I run hot and I can't stand warm weather at all, but I always feel a need to cocoon myself in a comforter when it gets cold, and even in the summer I sometimes sleep under a comforter because I need the weight of the blanket, as if it's some sort of protection, much like the snow leopards tail, which they wrap around themselves as blanket to keep them warm.

And while we prefer eating meat, we can also eat a significant amount of vegetation (for me vegetables and salads). We eat what we can find, and sometimes even not eating for either lack of food, or in my case forgetting altogether. But the snow leopard is a hunter, and they can kill animals more than three to four times their own weight, but will just as readily hunt smaller animals as well. I might not be a hunter, but speaking from a courage standpoint, I know that I wouldn't let the size of an animal stop me from hunting it. If I was hungry and I was stalking an animal much larger than myself, you better believe that I'd go after it. It might mean that I'd end up dead, but I'd still go after my prey no matter what.

After much research and trying to figure out this animal, I truly do think that it's the best fit for me.

#597 - samantha - American Flamingo

As mentioned in my application, flamingos are animals I feel very connected with, so I was pleasantly surprised it was one of my choices!! Even so, I had a hard time deciding as I also fell in love with another choice; however, when I started listing things I loved about each, the American Flamingo was the clear winner. I never actually researched this much about them, so it was great to realize how much in common we had.

They are beautiful creatures, but still kind of funny looking, and I consider myself a bit awkward, but always want to appear put together. I love their coloring and they are just so much fun to watch. The fact that they are waders in the water is important, since I usually only like to wade in anything other than a pool (lakes, ocean, etc.), and it's hard to find many others like that. I also love that they can be a bit obnoxious with their 'honking', as sometimes I can get obnoxious myself. Their coloring reflects what they eat, which I can transfer to myself being an open book or just putting myself out there. Also, they are very social birds, and get into spats with each other. This seems a lot like me. Sometimes I just get sick of people around people and can get bitchy. Any time I go to Busch Gardens, I find myself spending more time than typical just watching them move and interact with each other. I could definitely see myself as a flamingo and couldn't be happier with this choice!

#598 - magic_knickers - Sea Otter

I never would have thought of the sea otter for myself before seeing the choices granted, but when I read about its habits and saw the reasoning behind the votes on my application, I saw many similarities between us.

For one, sea otters have an inherent tie to the ocean, something that I immediately identified with and requested very clearly in my application. Like me, most of their time is spent near or in the water. They eat and interact with each other while in the sea. Their social habits were another point that matched up with my own behaviors. They aren't unfriendly, but they tend to do things on their own and live rather independently. Sea otter's are small and compact without being tiny, aggressive but not considered to be fierce predators. Even our eating habits are similar.

The color I chose for my form's fur matches my natural hair - it's a warm black - and the texture of a sea otter's fur is very similar to mine. Both of us have a ton of hair to deal with.

The more I think about it (and even as I'm writing this), the more satisfied I am with this form. It's simply a really great fit for me, and I couldn't be happier with it.

#600 - la_loony - Russet Sparrow

As mentioned in my application I have a soft spot for sparrows, so when they came up in my choices it was a front runner from the start.
After having it sink in and read up on the bird I think it's a really good fit.

They way these birds live works great for me. They stick to their tiny families while breeding (and share the work, I always like it when it's not just the mother breeding and 'raising' the offspring), but when that is done they come together to form a flock. They have some sort of alone time, but never are really alone and always have other birds around to keep them company and be save in the bigger group (and keep each other warm in cold winter nights).

They usually keep a safe distance from humans, but still tend to live in or at least close to urban areas because of the more secure food supply. And they are not the really easily scared kind of birds. Sure they fly away if you intentionally scare them, but they come back quickly and the really bold ones even eat from your hand if you are patient for them to overcome their suspicion.

I'm also fond of their colouration. House sparrows are cute too, but lack the cinnamon colour touch which I find quite lovely. It doesn't endanger the bird by making it easier to be seen, but makes him look different and special.

Their choice of food makes it easy to slip into the form because you can find something to eat everywhere, either insects or some sort of grain or berry. And paired up with the knowledge I have as a human I could stay away from the stuff that might be not the best for my animagus form (not deadly but maybe get the bird infected with something, I read that they are not really resistend against some things they catch sometimes through their food).

#601 - bookishgeek - Indian Gray Mongoose

At first, I totally rejected the mongoose. (no offense, bro). There wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, it just never struck me as the kind of animal I could be. I was drawn to the big cat, the Jaguar, and then to the bear, but neither really sat right with me. Then I read more about the mongoose. I put up a poll on my personal LJ to see if anyone else had any sagely wisdom they could impart on me. And they pointed out that there was a phrase used in the Wiki for the Indian Grey Mongoose that really resonated with me and my personality: "It is very bold and inquisitive but wary, seldom venturing far from cover. It climbs very well. Usually found singly or in pairs." If that's not me, I don't know what is, frankly. I'm very bold and I want to know everything there is to know about everything: I'm very progressive and interested in just about everything, I'm nosy, and I love to be all up in someone's business. But I don't ever really do anything too bold - I like having the safe reassuring curtain of silence, the way for me to make sure I'm doing whatever I am from a distance. The Mongoose is all about being inquisitive and silly, but they are SMART (they took over an island for God's sake) and they are resourceful and creative and they know when to turn it off. It's like my Ravendor being - I love to be silly but I know when to sit down and shut up. The Mongoose is adorable, as an added bonus. I overall really feel like this animagus form, moreso than any other, really wold be a good fit for me. I look forward to progressing with him as my logo, so to speak.

#602 - bangel_4e - Maine Coon

I chose the Maine Coon cat because, truth to be told, I've always identified myself with a cat. I can be fluffy and affectionate (exactly as a cat is) but I also need my alone time (a lot of it actually) and I can be pretty aggressive towards people if they don't respect my space or they don't understand I don't wanna go out all the time. Also, I'm such a night person, the hours when a cat is most active; I usually stay up until 3 am every night cause I think it's fun and it's the only time I can truly be by myself. Maine Coon cats are described as being loyal and faithful to their family, exactly as I am and also cautious around strangers but they usually have a very gentle disposition. That's exactly me. I don't trust people right away (or at least I try to) but I always try to be considerate and nice when I can or when people don't piss me off so it doesn't take long for me to open up.
The last tiny things that I share with this wonderful animal is that they tend to have heart conditions..I have nothing serious at all but I find it interesting that this cat has this and I have a Heart Murmur...it's nothing harmful but it's a detail I thought I'd write here.
The other one is the long, flowing coat...I used to have REALLY long, wavy hair...I loved it but had to cut it cause it was ruined and I needed but still... I consider that a distinctive trait and I love it.
So this is me: cute, fluffy cat with a strike for independence.

#603 - rhaneofterror - Swift Fox

I feel connected to the swift fox because they are small and quick even for foxes, which is very much something I wanted in an animagus form. Foxes also tend to very cunning. I also like the fact that they spend more time in their dens than a lot of other foxes, as like I said in my application I am very much a homebody. They also seem to embody my adaptiveness, since they bounced back from nearly being extinct, which rather relates to my life as I have bounced back from some really horrible things as well. Plus foxes in general tend to be quite adaptive. They also live in a part of the US that I would enjoy living in, as I have always wanted to move to Colorado. I also feel connected to them because they are awake in the evenings and at night which tends to be pretty close to the schedule that I keep. I also like that they are omnivorous as i am most definitely omnivorous (seriously I could not imagine living without meat or fruits and veggies, I love them both so much). Also no one can catch the mother fucking (swift) fox.

#604 - jamie_love13 - Toyger Cat

Ever since I was a really young kid, I always loved cats. According to my mom, whenever there was a cat around me, no matter the temperament, it would always calm down and let me near it. And it always worked the same way for me. Being a teenager with a mood disorder growing up, not a lot of animals could calm me down like a cat would be able to. Even during the slightest bad day, all I would have to do is pet a cat or lay my head down near it and I would be able to calm down after a while.

I guess my point is, I’ve had a connection to cats for as long as I can remember. When I wrote my application, I didn’t have a certain animal in my head, nor anything that could be linked back to an animal. However, when I reread my application so I could write this answer, one thing actually became really clear to me. I really am like a cat.

When I read more about the Toyger cat though (and it surprised me that I’d never even heard of it before), I realized that this animal was perfect for me. Because I didn’t have any animal in mind when writing my application, I was actually pleasantly surprised to see a type of cat on the list.

In general, cats are curious, playful types of animals that sleep a lot and can be loners and friendly animals. They can be hesitant at first, alongside shy, and then become extremely playful and loving afterwards. There’s not much information on Toyger cats, but I would imagine their behaviour is just like any other cat, which is really perfect for me, aha.

In short form, I think the Toyger Cat is the perfect animagus for me because of the amount of characteristics and behaviours we share, alongside our differences from others of our kind ;)

#605 - nowheretogo26 - Iberian Lynx

When I was given my four choices, I spent a lot of time researching each species. The voters did a wonderful job picking my animals; there are quite a few connections between myself and all of my possible animagi. For example, the solitary nature of the coyote was very fitting; the social habits of the sifaka was very like me; and the defensive nature of the wallaby hit very close to home. However, there was one animal in particular that I felt a very strong connection to from the moment I read my choices, and that animal is the Iberian Lynx.

I have always felt a connection to felines, ever since I was a little girl, and the Iberian lynx in particular has quite a few characteristics that are very close to my heart. For example, the Iberian lynx is a very patient creature, often lying in wait for prey for hours before pouncing. I am extremely patient, and often spend many hours in one place as well. Iberian lynx mothers often take care of their kittens up to 20 months after birth, which fits with my instinct to nurture and take care of those I love. Iberian lynx enjoy roaming but once they find a territory, they will remain stable (and defensive of said territory) for many years. In my application, I said I wanted a habitat with open spaces, but that I also value my space and do not want that space compromised. Iberian lynx, like most big cats, are nocturnal which fits with my lifestyle, going to bed right around dawn and being most active after dusk.

Perhaps, upon research, the deciding factor for me was just how endangered these beautiful creatures are. According to a recent study, there could be as few as 150 surviving Iberian lynx in existence, and they are at genuine risk of becoming the first feline species to go extinct since the saber-toothed tiger. I have always felt as though I am too different to truly fit in anywhere, too unique to really find someone else like me, and these cats are rare enough to fit that bill.

The Iberian lynx will be the perfect animagus form for me.

#606 - daisychain_xx - Clydesdale Horse

Wow! So much choice! If I may, I’d like to start by saying that I read every word of each vote, and I love the fact that so many people thought I should be a breed of dog. I do absolutely adore dogs, so I’m glad that came across.
Having said that, I feel that I absolutely must choose the Clydesdale horse; my main reason for this is geographical. I actually come from the same area as the horse originated from! I literally live a five minute walk from a section of the River Clyde, so it ties me to my home, and that is essential for me. I am so fiercely proud of my roots, and adore my hometown, so it was a no-brainer for me in that respect.
I also feel a strong connection to the horse because I am a big girl. I’m proud of it, and wouldn’t change for anyone. I feel the other animals, whilst tying in with my personality traits, do not fit in with my physical appearance as well. In the same vein, I also have different markings on my skin due to having three different skin conditions, so the markings on the horse would suit in this respect too. I have particularly badly marked hands, so perhaps my form could have a white mark on each hoof?
Another common trait we share is that we are both hard working. While my workload was more mental rather than physical, I have still had crosses to bear. Despite feeling as though I could give up, I never have.
In my opinion, I have quite a spiritual link with the Clydesdale. There was one particular animal, called Chieftain, who I had the pleasure to meet. I don’t want to sound weird by saying that we had a connection or anything, but I managed to tame him, and I was the only person he would let feed him! Sadly he’s no longer with us, but I felt really close to him.
In conclusion, I believe that the Clydesdale horse and I are closely linked in more ways than one, and I think that it is by far the best Animagus form for me.

#607 - eowyn_rain - Tibetan Sand Fox

This was actually a particularly difficult choice for me. Something I didn’t mention in my application was how much I adore horses, and am kind of surprised in myself that I forgot to mention that. That being said I nearly had a fangirly moment when I saw the Caspian Horse as a choice for me. The Caspian Horse is actually my favorite breed of horse, so for that to be considered one of my choices gave me a warm feeling inside!

However, I had to consider if it was the right choice for me. I might love horses, but would my animal form be a horse?

Looking into some of what has been said about that particular breed , and looking into the others, I started to notice some things.

Caspian Horses are “hardy” and graceful. That particular breed is also known for its good temperament, and being an excellent horse to be around and play with children. Simple choice, right? Not so much.

What made this choice so hard though was the intense pull from the Tibetan Sand Fox. As I have said before, somebody once said that I was like a fox, and I still think that is true. Foxes are known for being nocturnal, clever, intelligent, are small and social animals, and well, I actually resemble a picture of a Corsac Fox, which the Tibetan Sand Fox is often mistaken for and closely related to.

In the end, I had to go with my instincts, and my heart.

As much as I love the Caspian Horse, I don’t think I am a horse. Horse fan? Yes. Horse in spirit? No.

I’ve always had this personal connection to animals like wolves and foxes, and in my gut I have this feeling that if you took all my human layers away, a Fox would remain.

In the end, I choose the Tibetan Sand Fox.

Thank you so much to the people who voted for me and gave me such amazing animals to choose from! The choice was difficult, but in the end, I think I made the right choice for me.

#608 - corvae_regina - White-tailed Eagle

I will be the first to admit, I didn't make the choice I thought I was going to make. There were a few things that I connected with right away that didn't change. I liked the intelligence of all my options as well as the coloring. I also knew that I would choose one of the raptors. Though at first, I thought there was no question based on my own desires and personality clearly I'm an owl person. I read several websites and a few articles and there are few things about the Great Grey Owl that really struck me, however as I did more research I realized that it wasn't quite right.

I started researching the other two birds more carefully. As I started to look for more I realized that actually the White-tailed Eagle was a better fit.

The White-tailed Eagle is found all over the the Northern areas of Europe and Asia. Even more interesting is that it is found in Japan, where I am currently living. The areas where the White-tailed Eagle live are in my preferred temperature range as well as spanning all the areas where I wish to travel i.e. China, India, Iceland, Scotland etc. I also really found myself connected to its connection to the sea but also to lakes. When I was growing up I would spend half my summers at the beach and the other half in the mountains in a cabin. To this day I could not tell you which I prefer more and the fact that both of these places are preferred habitats of the White-tailed Eagle was very poignant.

Another aspect that drew me to the White-tailed Eagle was its diet. I mentioned in my application that I don't eat a lot of meat and that I don't eat red meat. The White-tailed Eagle's diet is primarily fish and sea birds which is almost a perfect match for my own preferences. I also find its opportunistic behavior (eating carrion) very similar to my own tendencies. I dislike cooking so I tend to try and make do with what I can find rather than cooking. Furthermore I've done some thinking on what my dᴁmon would be and he would also be a carrion eater.

The last thing that tipped the scale was actually the alternate names. As I mentioned before there were definitely some things that struck me about the Great Grey Owl. One of the most important was that it was called the “the Phantom of the North” and the “spectral owl” both of these names contain aspects that are extremely personally meaningful. It was the one item on the list (and yes I made a whole chart with four lists to weigh pros and cons of each) that I couldn't find for the White-tailed Eagle. Then I came across a web page with the names for the White-tailed in other languages. On this page I found out that its Welsh name is Eryr Y Môr. (Lit: The Sea Eagle) Sea Eagle being another of the White-tailed Eagle's common names (along with Ern and the very clever combination of the first two the White-tailed Sea Eagle.) The use of the word Môr to mean “sea” especially in the name was perfect. And so the final piece clicked into place and I choose the White-tailed Eagle.

#609 - meepalicious - Sokoke cat

I decided on the Sokoke Cat almost immediately, with my own tabby cat sitting in my lap. I was expecting more weasel-y options, and while I briefly considered the meerkat - the horse and bear were just too big - it just didn't fit right, because meerkats can't live in cities. The cat was the only one of my options that can (and does) live in urban environments. The painted horse was beautiful, but it wouldn't do very well in a major metropolitan area, and neither would the bear. (I don't sleep that much!)

Cats are social on their own terms, cute with a capacity for viciousness, and they sleep a lot. I knew there was a reason I've always been a "cat person." I like that the particular breed is a hybrid of domestic and wildcat ancestors. Sokokes bond closely to their people, and apparently meow a lot. They do best in quiet homes without too much stress and get sick easily. Gee, that sounds familiar.

I used to daydream that I could turn into a cat and sleep in patches of sunlight all day, but I had never considered a cat as a possible animagus form until the Sokoke turned up on my list of possibilities.

#610 - bluemermaid - European water vole

I loved all four of the animal choices I was given, but after doing research into each of them, I definitely think that the European water vole is the best fit for my animagus form, for a variety of reasons.

First, the water vole is a solitary creature, and I also prefer to be alone most of the time. It lives in burrows dug into the side of streams and river beds, though it can often be found swimming about and exploring its surroundings. This is perfect for me because I feel most comfortable in my bedroom, which is like my own little burrow, and at the same time I am very curious and love to explore. I have a great affinity for thick grass and for water, and the European water vole prefers to dig its burrows in areas of thick grass as well. They spend a lot of time in the water and are great swimmers. I wouldn't call myself a "great" swimmer, but I definitely love swimming and I prefer to swim in calm waters just like the water vole. If I had the option I would spend most of my time in the water, too!

My defense mechanism of choice is to escape any sort of confrontation, and the water vole acts in much the same way. It often builds the entrance to its burrow underneath the water so it can dive into the river and escape its land-based predators. That sounds a lot like what I would do, I think! These creatures are careful and cautious, just like me.

The European water vole eats mainly vegetation, but is known to eat small fish and insects when it has to. I also try to stick to a vegetation diet as much as possible, though I sometimes am drawn to how good seafood tastes.

The climate and country of the water vole's habitat also suits me, as it lives in Great Britain and parts of Europe. I'm actually an American, but through my obsession with Harry Potter I've definitely grown fond of Britain, and the weather there seems like it would be very comfortable for me, with its temperate climate. I don't want to live somewhere where it's very cold or very warm all the time, as I don't handle extreme weather well, and neither does the European water vole.

Finally, this animal is small and adorable, which is exactly what I wanted for my animagus form. I find myself to be smaller than average, and my style of clothing and physical appearance falls into the cute category more than anything else (in my opinion). I love being cute and I would love being cute in my animal form, too. Also, the golden-brown color of a typical water vole's fur looks almost exactly the same shade as my own hair color, so that's pretty cool.

All in all, the European water vole seems like a perfect fit for me, and I am very happy to take it on as my animagus form!

#611 - tama201 - Corsac fox

When I looked up this animal, one of the first things that caught my attention was that it has claws that allow it to climb trees. I find this very appealing because it will allow me to explore more areas than I would have been able to do without them, and also, it allows me another escape route should I ever get into trouble. Both of these treats are idea for me because I like to explore and I like to avoid confrontation. Also, people don't normally tend to think of finding a fox in a tree, which would allow me to spy on unsuspecting creatures, which is another thing I do. Like me, this animal also eats meat and vegetation, which is a plus, in case I ever had to be stuck in my form for an extended amount of time, I enjoy the night time, and the Corsac fox is nocturnal. They form monogamous relationships after first fighting for a mate, which I think is applies to me as well, I'd like to have a look around at whats out there, but I eventually plan to settle down with the one person I love. The males help raise their kids, which is something I too would do as a father. Overall, this animal resonates with me a lot, though there may be some things that I feel conflicted about, overall I feel that I can see myself spending time as this animal.

#613 - etacanis - Eurasian wolf

When I got my options, I totally zoomed in on the Eurasian Wolf and the Vancouver Island Wolf. I immediately dismissed hyenas because I'm still scarred from The Lion King, to be honest and I really love wolves. Icon totally vaguely relevant, but my pet name from a good friend is little wolf so IT'S A THING OKAY. But, yeah. I was interesting in the Vancouver Island Wolf, but there's just not enough know about it to sate my curiosity, so, Eurasian Wolf it is.

One, slightly shallow, thing that leans in the favor is the fact it's Eurasian. I'm a rampant European, fuck yeah Europe, etc etc so it's cool to be something, yk, found on my continent. Also they're smaller than their wolfy cousins and I understand those feelings because I come from a family of tall fuckers and I'm barely above average.

One of the things I stressed in my application was friends and pack and what stood out to me about the Eurasian Wolf was that their packs are smaller. While friends are important to me, I'm not the person that has a lot of them. I have a small group of close friends. People I adore and love and yeah, who are like my pack. They're occasionally about as feral. Eurasian Wolves are adaptable when it comes to their enviroment, and hey, I'm moving to a brand new country next week so I like to think that I am too.

I like that wolves protect what's theirs, I see that in myself as I can be very defensive and protective of those I love, things I love, etc etc. I like that wolves are monogamous, because that speaks to the romantic in me. I like that they don't kidnap other zebras like zebras do OKAY I;M REALLY NOT OVER THAT FACT SORRY. I like that wolves don't really have any serious predators, because I like the idea of being a little safer - come on, I'm a woman, I live in this world, safety isn't a huge thing - because other than humans, Eurasian wolves don't...really have predators. Also, being pretty much on the top of the food chain sounds cool.

TEAL DEER; wolves are really really great let me be a wolf plz xo

#614 - pinkphoenix1985 - Labrador retriever

I got some great choices from the members: (A Labrador retriever, a bottle dolphin, a North American River Otter, and an American mink). All forms satisfy my need for an animagus form that loves the water which is fantastic and made this choice very difficult. At first, I was so excited that the members gave me my favorite animal as a form-- the bottle nose dolphin and just then and there I wanted to claim it as a form but when I went on Wikipedia and read more about it--I couldn't really choose it. There were many reasons but the chief one is that the dolphin is a water animal and cannot live on land. That actually eliminated it because I don't think that I could have a form that I can only use when I'm by the sea. There is the thing that salt water is my least favorite type of water so that meant that the bottlenose dolphin was out.

Next I looked at the North American River Otter and the American mink. Both prefer freshwater which is what I prefer and also make their home on water AND land but then as I read more--I realized that they both are more wild than I am whereas I am more domestic at heart. Plus while I love rural areas, I live in an urban area and having an animagus form that is more seen in the wild would be very weird.

So that leaves the Labrador retriever- now for me this is really an unlikely choice because I'm not really a dog person per se or better yet I haven't come across one that doesn't drive me crazy jumping up on me :) I know that I mentioned that I thought about being a dog in my application but that was me reaching for some animal form that could be loyal. But since I had eliminated my other choices, I couldn't rule out the Lab option. As I began reading about the lab retriever, the more I could see myself in this animal. the Lab retriever is among the most loyal dog breeds, they are kind and outgoing and have a easy-going nature with a even temper. In addition, my research has shown that it is one of the more intelligent breeds as well. These traits suit me to a great degree. Plus the Lab retriever loves water and lives on land and it is a very domestic animal and is very much a family/social dog. Its traits also mean that it isn't much of a guard dog although it is very protective and barks at noises in a way that alerts the owner that there is a something happening which suits me very well because I'm not one to do the offense thing rather I'd try and avoid that. Although I did mention that I prefer to be by myself-- I am equally happy spending time with my huge extended family.

There was something that I read that I find very important to me-- I read that the Lab retriever are widely used as therapy and service dogs which is very near and dear to my heart.

In addition, looking over the voting I saw that four people voted to give me a dog animagus form so clearly they saw that it suits me and my traits.

Therefore I am going to say that my chosen animagus form is a Labrador retriever.

#615 - shinysparks - Crab-eating Fox

I chose the Crab-eating Fox when I realized that I wanted my animagus to be a cat because in my mind, a cat seems to be the animal most suited to being able to pass unnoticed if it wished. It reminded me of one of my answers in one of the stamping apps about what object I'd use against a horde of Death Eaters and I chose a Slytherin scarf or tie to lure them into a false sense of security. As I said, I am not a fighter and I am not aggressive, but I've been forced into situations with people who are fighters and are aggressive. I think that, being in these situations, I have a tendency to over-think and attempt out-clever things. I've done it for so long that it's become second nature to me and I don't even realize that I'm doing it: I see, I hear, I think, I study, I devise scenarios, I plan, I proceed with great caution and I adapt if needed.

To me, it comes down to the difference between what one is versus what one wants. I may want to be a cat, but I operate like a fox.

I think what drew me to the crab-eating fox (beyond the fact they seem to eat anything and are nocturnal like me,) was that they are known to sleep in dens that have been dug out by other animals. At first glance, it looks like laziness; however, to me, they're really using their environment to their advantage. They're resourceful, adaptable and cunning - especially in the manner in which they hunt (they change, depending on their prey.) These are generally the same traits that I see in myself (and why I think that, despite not being as driven or filled with ambition, I belong in Slytherin.)

Then, there's this: "Hideouts and dens often are founded in bushes and in thick grass, and there are several entrance holes." The claustrophobic in me is screaming "WHEN IN DOUBT, KNOW YOUR WAY OUT!" ;) I like multiple exits - always helpful. Oh yes. *nods furiously*

Lastly, I have a fox patronus, and I quite like the idea of the two sharing the same form. It just seems fitting to me. :)

#616 - c_hrista - African Forest Elephant

For my form, I chose the African Forest Elephant, which is a bit (a lot) different from my previous form of Sumatran Tiger (chosen in April 2011).

I feel more of a kinship with this elephant because it's not a predator. Elephants in general are more defensive than offensive, and I'm not as aggressive as a wild cat -- I'm less likely to instigate an attack than I am to be the target of one.

They're also among the smallest of the elephants, which makes sense with my own height in relation to other adults (I'm 5'1", haha). Although our diet is a bit different (I'm firmly an omnivore), I do enjoy my share of fruits and such.

Their social habits are a bit more like mine. The majority of my friends are females, and I tend to have groups of friends. I prefer to hang out with people, although I do sometimes like my alone time. I love the idea of a Matriarch leading the group, partially because I'm a leader myself (sometimes by choice, sometimes by necessity) and feel like I could do well in leading a herd.

Like elephants, I don't have many ~natural enemies~ except humans. I'm also incredibly emotive, something elephants are known for being. And also male elephants have big dongs. We are a perfect fit.

#617 - flipflop_diva - Chesapeake Bay Retriever

To be honest, I was secretly hoping the entire time I was writing my application and waiting for results that one of my choices would be a dog (even though I tried really hard to not even mention dogs in my application, so as not to sway anyone). It’s not just that I love dogs, but I have always felt a connection to them - they are loving and optimistic and are there when you need them, and they are willing to protect the people they love no matter what. (But at the same time, they are not afraid to have a little fun and enjoy life. And maybe even be a little naughty every now and then.)

So when I saw the Chesapeake Bay Retriever was one of my choices, I was so incredibly excited. I knew right away it was the one I would pick. Wikipedia says this about the personality of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever: The quintessential Chesapeake Bay Retriever has a bright and happy disposition, intelligence, quite good sense, and an affectionate protective nature. Some can be quite vocal when happy.

That really is totally me in a nutshell, even down to the getting more vocal when happy (or excited. I can get extremely chatty when I’m really excited over something. lol).

In addition, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever can also be a little reserved around strangers (also, me) and has a willingness to work, which is me, too. (I can be lazy with the best of them, but I am usually willing to step up and do ALL THE THINGS.)

My former animagus form was a Northern Burrowing Owl, and reading back over my essay, I feel like I tried really hard to make it fit, but a lot of it was based on superficial things - liking staying up late at night, living in the same part of the country I live in. But with the dog, it’s different. I feel like it fits me based on my personality and who I really am inside. Yes, I love water, and it loves water, so that is totally a plus, but that is just like sprinkles on top of the frosting on the cake. What matters most is its personality, and I think it’s a perfect fit for me. I’m really, really happy with this choice :)

#618 - schizophrenic0 - Alaskan Malamute

Choosing my final animagus form was difficult; I really wanted to choose all of the offered forms, but managed to narrow it down to this and the Asian small-clawed otter. After a great deal of going back and forth, I decided upon the Alaskan Malamute for a number of reasons. First, I think being a dog - particularly this breed - fits well with my personality. Dogs are generally intelligent, curious, friendly and energetic, all of which fit well with me. The Alaskan Malamute is particularly known for its intelligence and friendly nature; it is also known for being quite stubborn and difficult to train, which suits me well since I consider my stubborn nature one of my negative qualities (I always like to think that I’m right, even when I know deep down that I’m not). It also fits with my want for a slight “wild edge” while being mostly domesticated. They are also somewhat quiet, vocalizing in what sounds like more of a howl. I can also be pretty quiet at times, but I love to sing (and I think the howl is pretty close to singing).

As I said in my application, I am not intimidating or sneaky, and neither as these dogs. Though someone may mistakenly think they are intimidating, the Alaskan Malamute is one of the more gentle dogs, and it is stated that they would make lousy guard dogs (though, I must admit I would kind of like having an animagus form that might seem intimidating, even if I am not). They also aren’t small or low to the ground, which I really didn’t want for fear of being stepped upon.

The Alaskan Malamute is quick and agile, which are traits I highly value. They are also quite omnivorous (as I am) and will eat almost anything placed before them, though they do best on a diet of fish, poultry, lamb, and rice (all foods that I love). I stated in my application that I don’t have a particular affinity to any environment, though mentioned that I like air and water, but was fine with earth as long as it wasn’t beneath the earth. While the Alaskan Malamute is definitely an earth animal, some of them also enjoy the water, so I can be one of the ones who enjoys going for a nice swim.

The most important thing I love about the Alaskan Malamute, though, is that they are closely associated with cold, snow-covered areas and I love snow! I love to play in it, run through it, and just have fun! Like the Alaskan Malamute, I get hot very easily and so I prefer cold climates. These dogs also have very thick fur that requires a lot of maintenance and can shed in large clumps. While I don’t have fur, my hair is very long and very thick, and it’s not unusual for me to end up with lots of strands floating around after I brush my hair.

Overall, I think the Alaskan Malamute would be the perfect Animagus for me!

#620 - undauntra - Little Brown Bat

The Little Brown Bat is a ridiculously good fit for me, so I’m just going to work my way through the Wikipedia article for starters:

It has prominent canines; so do I. Its fur is dark brown and glossy on the upper parts; my hair is dark brown and glossy. It is found throughout much of North America, most commonly in the northern half of the continental US and southern Canada; I’ve lived in Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Oregon - and frequently visit Toronto and Ottawa. It has both day and night roosts; I have both house and traveling-for-work hotel room. It likes to hang out in buildings and trees and caves; I ditto. It experiences torpor in winter; I get the winter blues. It eats bugs; I eat lobster, aka “the cockroach of the sea”. It likes to roost near water; I like humid climates. It has echolocation; I want enhanced senses in my Animagus form.

The Little Brown Bat is crepuscular; I am most active in mornings and evenings. It migrates; I relocate every few years. Males and females live separately for much of the year; I travel a lot for work and only see my sweeties on weekends. It has both active phase and passive phase mating; I switch. It mates promiscuously; I have an open marriage.

Other similarities that aren’t taken directly from the Wikipedia text: I have freakishly long, thin hands. Bat wings are basically long, thin hands with webbing connecting the fingers. I wanted an inconspicuous form that would work in an urban setting; little brown bats are tiny brown things that can roost under the eaves of buildings. I like small enclosed spaces; bats roost in small enclosed spaces.

#622 - corcaigh - German Shepherd

As soon as I saw the four options I had to choose from, I immediately knew I wanted to go with the German Shepherd. I pride myself on being a fantastic companion, and I think all of the traits I mentioned really highlight that part of me (adaptable, affectionate, cooperative, and loyal). I know dogs in general are known as "man's best friend", and this is especially true with the German Shepherd. On one website, it says "The GSD is one breed of dog that bonds strongly with his or her family. Unlike some dogs the German Shepherd can bond with more than one person and they tend to be very accepting of family members and friends of the family once they are introduced", and this is SO MUCH like me.

I said in my application that I don't imagine myself changing much in animagus form, and as a German Shepherd, that would really ring true. They're fun-loving, yet laid back animals, fiercely protective, sociable, and empathetic. I know that German Shepherds can be perfectly happy walking around doing nothing at all, sitting around watching TV, playing outside, or anything as long as they're with someone they love. I also know that they're often used as guide dogs because of their intelligence, how easy it is to train them, and how good they are at reading people's emotions. I like to consider these traits that I have as well.

I really couldn't imagine a better fit for my animagus. I told my sister and she was like "YES" and told me that I practically greet everyone at the door with my tail wagging as it is. I just love my family and friends so much, and I think that it's really the biggest and most significant part of who I am, just like German Shepherds and their people. Also, I was just stamped as Sirius Black so being a dog is even more cool with that in mind.

#626 - uberniftacular - Chartreux

I felt a connection to the Chartreux cat as soon as I saw the choices post. I've been drawn to cats all my life, and this time is no exception. And while there were two cats to pick from in my choices, I feel that the Chartreux is a better fit for me overall.

I’m a generally happy person, and I was immediately fascinated and thrilled by the description that Chartreux cats frequently look like they’re smiling because of their head structure. The physical description says that they’re short-limbed and muscular cats, and while I’m not exactly muscular, I do tend towards the…sturdy side (as opposed to the sleek and elegant way some cats look). So I feel like this cat is a great match for me in terms of physicality.

In terms of personality, Chartreux cats are described as being quiet and intelligent cats, both of which are things that describe me pretty well too. I tend to be pretty quiet most of the time, and I’m generally considered pretty intelligent. I’m especially drawn to their tendency to bond with one person in their household, because I’m the type of person who prefers one-on-one interactions above all else. The fact that they’re playful into their adult years suits me well too, because while I’m technically an adult, I certainly don’t act like one most of the time, and tend to like to “play” rather than work.

On a purely superficial note, the article for the Chartreux cat mentions that a Chartreux is the mascot for the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and I really love jazz. Also, the Chartreux comes from France originally, and French is the only language I can speak besides English (and I’ve got a little bit of French in my heritage too, though not a lot). So all in all, the Chartreux is definitely the form for me.
