The current state of Somarium as a world is dictated by the phase of the moon. Not much is currently known about why certain events are associated with the moon or what it means, but it's definitely clear that brighter times come with the full moon, while darkness descends with the new. Unlike real life, Somarium's moon cycles much more slowly. A full cycle takes about eight real-world weeks unless certain things change it.
Moon Cycle posts will be issued by the mods once a week. The exact day changes due to the Cycle schedule or mod schedule. Some cycles last for more than a week. A new game-wide event will occur on every Full and New moon in addition to interspersed random events.
The Moon Cycles between the Full and New Moon cycles are generally called "cycles" or "phases". Nothing significant normally happens during these cycles, though they will usually be related to either the past event or future event. Sometimes they will have various effects that might lead up to the next event. But mostly it is during these three "break" periods that characters can have their own character plots without worrying about conflicting with any game plot.
The Full/New Moon cycles are considered as "main events" for the game. It is during these Moon Cycles that a large game-plot related event will occur. They will almost always be related to the game plot in some shape or form. They usually occur during one of the last two weeks of the month, though this can change.
There are four pieces to a moon cycle post:
Phase: This will describe what phase Somarium's moon is in; from Full to Waning to New to Waxing. The complete cycle is as follows, starting with the New Moon: New Moon --> 1/4 Wax --> Half --> 3/4 Wax --> Full --> 3/4 Wane --> Half --> 1/2 Wane --> New Moon.
Weather: This describes the weather forecast for the cycle. The state of the world tends to correspond with Somarium's weather patterns, so it's not a bad thing to pay attention to. It comes with a calendar table to help players better visualize and plan posts for the week.
Effect: This section describes how the moon phase will affect the characters within Somarium. This could be a dream effect, an event effect, the aftereffects of an event, or the transition into a new event. It's possible that nothing happens. It all depends on what's coming up or has happened.
Notes: This section describes anything else that is changing within Somarium during the week. This could range from the demolition or appearance of new land masses to the very city morphing beneath a character's feet. Additional OOC instructions are also entailed in this section to help clarify what exactly is happening.
